Boris Mirkin Interview

Boris: In my work I like people to reveal their dark side, feeling and emotions. While quality photography is important I feel that substance is far more appreciated.

FETFAN: How did you get started with Photography and how long have you been a photographer for?

Boris: I got my first Polaroid when I was 10 and if I told you how long I've been at it you'd know my age. So a long time.

FETFAN: What type of camera do you shoot with?

Boris: Whatever is laying around. I shoot Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Leica, Polaroid and lots of other vintage cameras.

FETFAN: If you had to choose one lens to work with which one would it be and why?

Boris: I have a 50mm F1.2 on my Nikon F3 that I just love. It's the fastest lens I own.

FETFAN: What lighting equipment do you take on a shoot?

Boris: Alien Bees and speedlights.

FETFAN: Your photography stands out from many artists, how did you decide or discover this side of yourself as an artist?

Boris: I guess cause my soul is black..hahaha. I don't show that side of me very often but those who know, know.

FETFAN: How much post production do you do on your images?

Boris: Sometimes a lot and other times none. Really depends on the aesthetics of the photograph.

FETFAN: What software do you use for editing your images?

Boris: Photoshop and Lightroom.

FETFAN: What inspires you to create such great imagery?

Boris: Great artists Like Helmut Newton and Scavullo

FETFAN: What is your favorite image you have recently created and can you give us an insight on its creation?

Boris: I have yet to create it.

FETFAN: Throughout your career I'm sure you have been to many different places, which has left an impression and what kind of project were you working on?

Boris: I spent some time in the Middle East. All I can say is wow.

FETFAN: What talent would you like most to have?

Boris: I'd like to be a good photographer someday. :)

FETFAN: What is something you're still learning?

Boris: I feel like I learn something new every time I pick up a camera.

FETFAN: What is something you consider to be overrated?

Boris: Fame

FETFAN: When at a photoshoot, what do you love most about the experience and what do you find challenging as an artist?

Boris: The person I'm working with inspires me the most. They help me bring out their true self, wether they know it or not. The most challenging thing for me is when a person lacks zest.

FETFAN: Have you ever attended any seminars or workshops?

Boris: I've been to a couple. I'm not a fan.

FETFAN: How would you best describe yourself using just 3 words?

Boris: Ready, stead, go.

FETFAN: As an artist I'm sure there are many art forms you enjoy photographing. Can you share which ones you enjoy the most.

Boris: I'm really liking dance lately. I would love to shoot more of it.

FETFAN: Have you ever found an interest in Fetish Photography, and if so please share your favorite experience.

Boris: Of course! The imagery is eye opening.

FETFAN: What photographic ambition have you not achieved yet?

Boris: I'd love to shoot some covers for magazines.

FETFAN: What advice would you give to someone who is considering a photography career?

Boris: Don't do it, hahaha but if you do don't look before you leap.

FETFAN: To your fans and followers any last words?

Boris: Come on people, let's do it!
