The man behind the camera of CommandoArt, Thomas Holm

Thomas: These days I mostly shoot fine art nudes and often completely nude. I aim for a sensual feel to my images and emotion is really the core at what I do. Nudity is just a means to get the feel I like in the images. I'm based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

FETFAN: How did you get started and how long have you been in the industry?

Thomas: I have a formal education as a commercial photographer in Denmark and graduated in 1988. I've been shooting tones of commercials, advertising, still life and models since then. I started like so many others as a hobbyist in my early teens and got hooked on the magic of developing prints, and eventually managed to turn the hobby into a job. In 2001 I completely stopped shooting. I had become pretty good at it and I became bored and needed new challenges, so I transitioned into color management consulting (yeah, I'm slightly nerd'ish). I wanted to re-find my passion again and after spending 7-8 years wondering how, and what it was that originally attracted me I decided I needed to shoot something as far away from commercial photography as possible, and I settled on nudes.

FETFAN: What is your favorite genre to work on and how did you discover it was what you are most passionate about?

Thomas: Art-nudes definitely for the time being. It's the ultimate challenge. A body lighting and a background. Very easy to make tacky, requires careful technique, a firm idea and good psychological skills to properly work with the model.

FETFAN: Do you have any projects your working on or coming up that you are looking forward to work on?

Thomas: Oh yes: I've just laid the final hand on a book of my Fine art nudes called The graces. Offset printing is done in Late November and it will be shipping by December 7th. Available via my website: store.commandoart.com Making a book from end to end is a wonderful challenging project: You may think you are great at shooting pictures, but then you need to fit it info a certain format, build a story-line out of images which is not originally meant to be sequenced, ignore some of you best images (or at least you think so when they end up on the floor). Then there is lay-outing which requires several images to be flipped and grossly cropped, and all the technical parameters of course. But again I love challenges...

FETFAN: What is your ultimate goal for your career as an artist?

Thomas: To touch peoples soul. Ultimately I shoot to please myself but I also know many, especially women find joy in how I portray them.

FETFAN: Something a little more fun...Do you have any fetishes and how did you discover this side of yourself?

Thomas: I guess voyeurism is a fetish and on that I'm absolutely guilty. I love to look, observe, evaluate. I don't know when this started I have done that as far back as I can remember. It's not voyeur as in sneaking around looking in other peoples windows, I do it pretty much all over in everyday life. I think it was Helmut Newton who said every photographer is either a voyeur or a liar. In any event I agree. If you are a photographer you have to have a huge visual reference library stored in your mind to be able to recreate scenes that your audience can relate to.

FETFAN: How would you best describe yourself using just 3 words?

Thomas: Meticulous, Helpful, Positive.

Interview with Tara Tied I had the pleasure of working with Tara. Tara has a unique and versatile style about her modeling and works hard to deliver the concept at hand. I'm looking forward to working with her again in the near future. Artist's Statement: I have been an art nude and fetish model for about 5 years now. I got into modeling just for fun and it quickly blossomed into more than a hobby. Pin up style nudes and fetish are what I'm mostly known for, but I also shoot glamour and ...
